On Very Hard/Legendary, their first 50 turns are *very* slow and require a bunch of waiting. They're probably better on low difficulty (at least at the beginning). Personally, I didn't find their campaign much fun at all, but many people love them. I would not reccomend them as a starter faction. Their mechanics are a bit strange, and in battle depend quite a bit on micro. Wood elves have a rocky start and an incredibly easy endgame. It'll be challenge with either of these factions. Orc combat is very much about surrounding and overwhelming opponents with sheer numbers. Orcs are fairly simple all around, but the Waagh AI is annoying. Brettonia also requires a crapload of micro and has some tricky campaign mechanics. Orcs and Brettonia are in a bad palce balance-wise. Chaos are pretty easy, but IMO *incredibly* boring. I've heard Beastmen are rather difficult, but don't own the DLC myself. Also, everyone hates you, so you will get very little in the way of diplomacy. They're quite strong balance-wise, and all around very fun.īeastmen and Chaos are horde factions so they play differently. You'll use a lot of expendable troops (because raise dead is so easy), and rely more on magic in battle. Vampire Counts are awesome, but require a bit different of a playstyle. Also, I find them much more fun than dwarfs. Also, you're incredibly favored in auto-resolve, to the point where auto-resolving will give you better results than actually playing the battles.Įmpire isn't nearly as easy as Dwarfs, but gives you a lot of options for how you want to play, and isn't very complex. Lots of ways to make money, and their combat is very simple (albeit a bit boring), since you can play very defensive.

But all of the following applies to both games:ĭwarfs are by far the easiest faction. If you play Empire/Dwarf/Vampires, you'll probably not encounter any of the Warhammer 2 races for 150+ turns. Just move to Mortal Empires it includes the full WH1 map plus the gameplay and interface improvements of WH2.
